Knockr is a household messaging app that works entirely on your home Wi-Fi network. Your messages never leave your house.
There are no accounts, no advertising, no message servers, and no collection of personal data. The only thing that can ever leave your home network is an optional, anonymous once-a-day usage counter — described below, with an off switch in Settings — and it never includes message content.
What the app does with data
- Messages, photos, voice notes, and videos you send travel directly from your device to the receiving device over your local network. They never leave your home network and never touch the internet or any third party.
- Household Key encryption (optional). If you set a Household Key in Settings, every message is encrypted (AES-256) between your devices, so other devices on your Wi-Fi — guests, smart gadgets — can't read your family's knocks. The key never leaves your devices.
- Microphone access is used only while you actively record a voice note, and only after you grant permission. Recordings are sent to the screen you chose and are not retained by us.
- Photos and videos you choose through the system picker are read only to send them to the screen you chose.
- Settings, message history, and presets are stored locally on your own device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing its data.
- Device names (e.g. "Living Room TV") are visible to other devices on the same Wi-Fi network so screens can identify each other.

Anonymous usage statistics (optional)
To know whether Knockr is being used, the app can send anonymous usage counters once per day: number of app opens, number of messages sent by kind (text/photo/voice/video), replies, platform (phone/TV/iOS), app version, the number of screens in the household, and which features are enabled. This is tied to a random install identifier that cannot identify you. It never includes message content, media, names, network addresses, or location, and no IP addresses are stored by the collector.
You can turn this off at any time: Settings → "Anonymous usage stats."
Children
Knockr is designed for family use. It includes parental controls (approved sender lists, a master PIN, and a kid-safe reply mode). The app does not collect data from anyone, including children.
